WET HEALING
SANIDERM/INFINITE BANDAGE/HYPAFIX

24 - 48 Hour Method

  • Becky will apply a piece of Second Skin (semi-permeable plastic membrane) to your tattoo. This will stay in place for 24 - 48 hours.

    1.  It is very normal for fluids to become trapped under the Second Skin film and for the tattoo to appear quite muddy. This could range from a few dots of blood trapped under the film to more substantial amounts of black liquid. It varies completely person to person.

    2. If your piece of Second Skin peels up at the edges you may apply a piece of medical tape to the peeled edge to hold it down.

    3. Redness under the Second Skin is normal, but anything extreme like welts or rash are not. Contact Becky asap with clear photos for advice or contact a medical professional.

  • Peel your Second Skin off in the shower, allowing some water to flow over the area as you peel. You may shower while the Second Skin is on you.

  • It may be uncomfortable to pull the Second Skin off, but rest assured it does not stick to the open tattoo, it sticks to the dry skin around it.

  • Your Second Skin may have an imprint of the tattoo left on it - don't worry you didn't tear out any ink.

  • Largely you should be through the worst of the healing. Your tattoo may peel now as it hits the air. If your tattoo peels it does so like a healing sunburn. Clients often experience quite a bit of itchiness at this stage especially with large tattoos in Becky's style.

  • You can moisturize with an unscented lotion only once it becomes dry and itchy, but otherwise you are safe to leave it alone other than to give it a good wash once per day with unscented soap dispensed into clean hands from a pump bottle. Do not apply moisturizer into the tattoo when it is still an open wound.

  • Avoid exercise of any kind while the Second Skin is in place and until the skin is no longer sensitive to the touch. Sweat and friction will peel the edges up and sweat can react more strongly with the adhesive.

  • Avoid direct sunlight on your tattoo for one month.

  • No sunscreen for one month on the tattoo.

  • No swimming, pools or hot tubs for 14 days.

  • Don't ever scratch your tattoo.

  • If adhesive residue sticks around, take some coconut oil on clean hands and remove the excess.

  • Your tattoo will feel healed after 2 weeks and up to one month for more complex tattoos, however it will still be healing subdermally for up to 3 months. It is normal during that time to feel extra tenderness, notice a shine to the tattoo, and to be prone to skin irritation in the tattoo during that entire 3 month period.

  • Touch-ups are available for 50$+tx to cover cost of materials

5 day method

(only for very large pieces, usually 5+ hour sittings)

  • Becky will apply a piece of Saniderm (semi-permeable plastic membrane) to your tattoo. This will stay in place for 24 hours.

    1.  It is very normal for fluids to become trapped under the Saniderm film and for the tattoo to appear quite muddy. This could range from a few dots of blood trapped under the film to larger amounts of black liquid. It varies completely person to person.

    2. If your piece of Saniderm peels up at the edges you may apply a piece of medical tape to the peeled edge to hold it down.

    3. Redness under the Saniderm is normal, but anything extreme like welts or rash are not. Contact Becky asap with clear photos for advice or, if extreme, contact a medical professional.

  • Peel your Saniderm off in the shower, allowing some water to flow over the area as you peel. You may shower while the Saniderm is on you.

  • It may be painful to pull the Saniderm off, but rest assured it does not stick to the open tattoo, it sticks to the dry skin around it.

  • Your Saniderm may have an imprint of the tattoo left on it - don't worry you didn't tear out any ink.

  • Pat dry with clean paper towel or clean regular towel. Allow to air dry completely for 15 minutes.

  • Wash your hands and apply the second piece of Saniderm. Becky will show you during your appointment how to apply it as well as mark on the sheet how to use it.

  • Leave this piece in place for 4 - 6 days. Everyone is different but once you start to feel the tattoo become itchy under the wrap you can take it off as it is through the "open wound" stage.

DRY HEALING

  • After 3 - 5 hours: you can remove your bandage with clean, dry hands. Throw the bandage in the trash immediately and then immediately wash your hands again.

    • Wash your tattoo thoroughly with an unscented soap (soap recommendation below) and gently pat it dry with clean paper towel. Avoid fabric towels that have been previously used. Do not moisturize it.

  • 1st Night: With clean hands, you may wrap your cleaned and dried tattoo with seran wrap and sleep with it on. In the morning, gently wash off any lymph/blood/ink left on your skin.

  • 2nd Day: Wash your tattoo once. Do NOT apply a moisturizer to your tattoo until it begins peeling. Moisturizing too early is the #1 cause of heat rash and irritation to fresh tattoos.

  • 2nd Night: With clean hands, you may wrap your cleaned and dried tattoo with seran wrap and sleep with it on.

  • Your tattoo will peel and scab after about 3 days and should last for another 3 - 5 days afterwards depending on the style and size of your piece. This is normal! Do not pick it If it's itchy, you can apply an unscented moisturizer (moisturizer recommendation below).

  • In the shower, avoid shampoo, conditioner and body washes from coming into contact with the piece. Avoid direct contact with the tattoo under the shower head.

  • No swimming, pools or hot tubs for 14 days.

  • Avoid pet hair on the tattoo, especially cat hair.

  • Avoid exercise for 2 - 5 days while your tattoo is still an open wound.

  • Avoid direct sunlight on your tattoo for one month.

  • No sunscreen for one month on the tattoo.

  • Don't ever scratch your tattoo.
